Senior Lecturer, Marketing Division at Columbia Business School
Dr. Shawndra Hill is a proven leader with a 30+ year track record of exceptional performance in data science, research, and team leadership. She leads the Networks and Behavioral Modeling team within Central Applied Science at Meta, where her teams contribute to products and decisions that generate billions in revenue. Her leadership is distinguished by consistently high team feedback reviews and meaningful impact on firm strategy and product development.
Concurrently, she serves as a Senior Lecturer at Columbia Business School, where she teaches courses on generative AI and marketing data. Her research focuses on data mining, machine learning, statistical relational learning, and generative AI, with particular emphasis on their application to business problems in marketing and advertising.
Her groundbreaking research on network-based marketing, published in Statistical Science in 2006, demonstrated that consumers are significantly more likely to adopt services when connected to existing customers—a finding with substantial implications for marketing strategy and customer acquisition. She now works on research at the intersection of Generative AI and Marketing and Advertising, exploring how AI can transform customer engagement and advertising effectiveness.
What makes Dr. Hill's perspective unique: Having witnessed the evolution of data and marketing over three decades, she bridges academia and industry seamlessly, delivering transformative impact in both worlds by identifying problems that are equally valuable to research and practice.
